Information Analyst – Regional Emergency Nutrition

ABH partners would like to invite applicants who meet the below requirements to apply for the position of Information Analyst – Regional Emergency Nutrition.

Required number: 1 (One)
Duty station: Amhara DPFSB -Emergency Nutrition Coordination Unit/RHB
Duration: 6 months with possibility of Extension 
Salary: Attractive 
Expected Start Date: Immediately after concluding the contract 

Overall Objective: 
  • Build the capacities of the EW Unit/ FS&DPPS in the areas of EW information analysis including nutrition assessment and database management
  • Establish Regional nutrition and other EW systems database and ensure easy access to those involved in the system 
  • Strengthen the use of various nutrition indicators and enhance timely reporting and dissemination of information 
  • Create strong linkage with BOH, NGOs and UN Agencies and closely monitor and validate quality nutrition data.
Key duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the EW Unit Head/FS&DPPS and backstopping for Federal ENCU, the Information Systems Analyst will be responsible for undertaking the following:
  • Creation of database to capture EW data including health and nutrition related information, with particular emphasis on surveillance compatible with GIS;
  • Collect data from various sources (GO, NGOs, UN agencies etc), organization and data entry of EW (health/nutrition) related information in the above-mentioned database.
  • Conduct EW and health/nutrition data analysis using Nutrition Survey for SMART, SPSS, GIS etc;
  • Monitor data change and resolve data discrepancies as necessary.
  • Under the guidance of the Regional EW unit Head/FS&DPPS, create linkage with Federal ENCU and other relevant regional offices with the aim of exchanging timely information updates and improving the quality of data management and reporting within the Region.
  • Assimilate recommendations/requirements for general ration and supplementary food and other nutrition related interventions in database, for regular monitoring of dispatch/distribution of food Vs requirements and comparison to nutritional status when data is available.
  • Under the guidance of the EW Unit Head/FS&DPPS, provide information for regular reports, drawing information from databases.
  • Advise the EW Unit Head/FS&DPPS of changes or shifts in the EW situation report that could potentially effect targeting and/or identification of crisis area.
  • Monitor existing databases and make suggestions for constructive changes as necessary.
  • Assist the EW Unit Head/FS&DPPS in assessments and periodic report writing.
  • Provide trainings in the areas of database management, including GIS, SPSS and Nutrition Survey for SMART for staffs working in the EWS of the Region.
  • Perform other related duties as required
Expected Output
  • Monthly reports on the progress and synopsis of the emergency situation in the region for use by FS&DPPS and partners.
  • Monthly/bi-weekly and quarterly report on progress in the development of the Nutrition Coordination Unit at the FS&DPPS
  • Availability of database on early warning/nutrition indicators for easy access and utilization
  • A final report on achievements, constraints and recommendations for a sustainable capacity to survey nutritional status in the assigned region. 
Administration
  • The information Analyst will be based in EW Unit/DPPD of the concerned region and will spend some of his time in the field for data collection and quality control of Nutrition Information 
  • The Information Analyst will report to the Head of EW Unit/DPPB and to the ENCU Coordinator of Federal Level. Also, regional UNICEF Nutrition specialist 

Required Qualification, Competencies, Skills, Trainings, & Experience 
  • BSc/BA Degree in Information Technology or Management System or Computer Science or Statistics or related disciplines with back ground on Nutrition program or related field
  • At least 5 years relevant experience with the above field e.g., database design, management and distribution
  • Substantial experience using SQL Server, Nutrition Survey for SMART, GIS, SPSS, Access, Excel and other software packages
  • Knowledge of information systems and databases, with an emphasis on user needs/requirements, database design, database distribution and map production 
  • Ability to work well with people and to give “hands-on” training with database is required
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Good organizational and planning skills
